Getting Started with The Defiant

The Defiant is not out. Hangzhou Hoothanes Entertainment has been building the game in Unreal Engine 5 since 2023, and 4Divinity is publishing it for PC on Steam plus PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no public release date. IGN’s hands-on preview in July 2026 suggested the team still had a year or two of polish, which matches a title that only just ran public demos at ChinaJoy and gamescom. This page is the checklist for everything you can do before launch.

Wishlist and storefronts

On PC, add the game from the official Steam page. Steam app ID 3184960 is the one to follow; family sharing is blocked until release, which is normal for unreleased titles. Console storefront pages will appear closer to launch. Until then, treat Steam as the source of truth for trailers, language lists, and the RAM/storage numbers we reprint in system requirements.

The platforms guide lists every confirmed SKU and the Steam language matrix. English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese currently have full audio and subtitles. French, German, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), Italian, Portuguese-Brazil, Japanese, Polish, Czech, Turkish, and Russian are listed as interface languages. An English voice dub is planned for release; preview builds used Chinese audio with translated subtitles.

What kind of game you are wishlisting

The Defiant is a cinematic single-player FPS first. The campaign target is about fifteen hours across four chapters, each with a different Chinese soldier and a different mix of stealth, sabotage, sniping, and assaults. 4Divinity has also mentioned code-breaking work, vehicular combat, and a loyal companion who travels with you — details that have not been fully shown in public hands-on sessions.

A separate PvE co-op mode is planned at launch. You will not drop a friend into the story. Co-op uses maps and missions based on campaign spaces, currently estimated at four to eight players, with Steam listing both online co-op and LAN co-op. There is no announced competitive multiplayer, battle pass, or live-service loop. That is the point: this is closer to a late Medal of Honor campaign than to a modern Call of Duty season.

First-hour expectations (from previews)

IGN played a snowy northeast mountain slice at a Bilibili First Look event. You fight with a Liao Type 13 bolt-action, push through caves and trenches, and take cover while a blood vignette tells you how close you are to dying. There are no medkits in the shown build; you wait for vision to clear. You can run and slide into cover. The preview build could not jump, vault, or go prone. Those mobility limits may change — Hoothanes said they are iterating on feedback — but you should not assume Titanfall-style traversal.

Gunfeel in the range session covered bolt-actions, submachine guns, scoped rifles, mounted machine guns, stick grenades, and a broadsword. Carry two guns plus grenades. Reload animations and audio were a highlight. Read how to play for the full combat notes and rifles for named weapons.

Demo history so far

ChinaJoy 2026 in Shanghai hosted the first public demo (booth N1-G201, late July into early August). gamescom 2026 in Cologne hosted the Western hands-on (Hall 7, booth B021, 26–30 August) plus an Opening Night Live trailer. Neither demo is a downloadable Steam playtest as of this writing. Watch the trailer above, then use the gamescom recap and trailers page if you want the video list without hunting channels.

4. If you are on a mid-range PC, read system requirements. Only RAM and a 100 GB install are public; CPU and GPU remain TBD, so do not buy a card based on this page.
