The Defiant Updates
Trailers, demos, and press beats in order — no invented launch windows.
The Defiant is still upcoming. This hub is the timeline of things that actually happened: a January 2026 Western announcement, a July 2026 ChinaJoy demo and gameplay trailer, an IGN hands-on, and a gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live spot plus a Cologne booth demo. If you only have time for two pages, read the ChinaJoy 2026 demo recap and the gamescom 2026 write-up, then the trailers list.
We will not post a fake “Q4 2026” or “spring 2027” date. IGN’s previewer guessed the game might still be a year or two from finished after playing it in July 2026. That is an informed impression, not a publisher window.
Timeline
2023. Hoothanes begins work on the project (studio comments to press).
22 August 2024. Steam app 3184960 first appears in SteamDB changelists.
September 2025. 4Divinity’s publishing deal with Hoothanes, as reported around the gamescom 2026 Western debut, gives 4Divinity marketing and distribution with a right of first refusal on future Hoothanes titles.
Late 2025 / 28 January 2026. Official reveal trailer circulation (IGN and 4Divinity). Wishlist campaign on Steam. Console mentions firm up around the same window; Gematsu later notes PS5 and Xbox Series versions.
30 July 2026. New gameplay trailer. First public demo at ChinaJoy 2026 in Shanghai, booth N1-G201, through 3 August. IGN publishes a hands-on preview from a Bilibili First Look event: four chapters, ~15-hour campaign, separate PvE co-op.
25–30 August 2026. gamescom Opening Night Live trailer. Western playable demo in Cologne, Hall 7 booth B021. IGN posts a gameplay trailer and an interview with Kong Yuheng (Hoothanes) and Chor Yong (4Divinity).
What each beat changed
The January reveal established the pitch: China’s War of Resistance, Unreal Engine 5, story FPS. ChinaJoy proved a playable slice existed. IGN’s article is still the best mechanical source — health vignette, two-gun rule, Liao Type 13, no jump/vault/prone in that build. gamescom was the Western coming-out: more trailer footage, console presence, and the “not a Chinese Call of Duty” framing in features.
None of those events added a price, a PEGI/ESRB number beyond Steam’s mature violence descriptors, or a CPU/GPU list. System requirements still show 8 GB / 16 GB RAM and 100 GB storage only.
How we update this wiki
New official trailers go on trailers. Show-floor or showcase recaps go in dated articles like gamescom 2026. Mechanical changes land in How to Play and the weapons hub. Storefront changes land in platforms.
If you want the beginner path rather than the news path, start at Getting Started. Official social accounts are collected on links.
What to watch next
A Steam Next Fest demo, a console store listing with a date, an English dub sample, or a locked co-op player count would all be bigger than another cinematic. Until one of those drops, trailer analysis is optional and wishlist remaining is the only action that matters.
